Snowzilla

Wednesday, January 20,2016, Jim went to Lodge(Mason's). After he left we got a lite dusting of snow. Very pretty, lite and fluffy snow that was easily swept off the sidewalk and steps with a broom. I don't like footprints on my sidewalk/steps so I made sure it was clear for when Jim came home. I went to bed a little worried about Jim driving home in snow. His 15 minute drive took 45 minutes. We didn't think that was too bad...evidentally some of the other Mason's that had a bit longer drive. One friends hour drive took 6 hours...another 3 hours to go 7 miles...crazy! We decided we live in a good spot. The traffic lock up was mainly on bridges, so school was cancelled for this. No school Thursday and Snowzilla hasn't even started...wonderful! I went to run errands at noon, especially looking for a snow shovel and groceries. I found my groceries in a mobbed grocery store with employees who already looked overworked. Yes, some shelves were empty...AMAZING! I did not find a shovel. Thursday night I noticed our neighbors packing up their car. They were going to their place in Wintergreen. I asked if I could use their shovel while they were gone. Whew! Saved!

On Friday, January 22, school was cancelled again, due to fact storm was coming. Federal building employees were encouraged to telework...I begged Jim to stay home and he did.🤓 A bit before noon. We decided to go out for BBQ at Rocklands. I've been having trouble with acid reflux so this wasn't the best choice for me, but the Brussels sprouts were amazing and mashed potatoes never let me down. We walked into the place and Mr. Flowers greeted me by name. We've found our comfort place! The also have tubs of peanuts to eat while you wait and just started doing soup of the day. Flowers sent me home with a free bowl of soup.😇
When we drove home Jim stopped to put air in one of the tires and we saw our first flurry of snow at 12:47. We hurried home and then the flurries really started coming.

My bedtime
On January 23, Saturday, I tried to shovel the sidewalk every 3-4 hours...

It kept filling up again!
I fell in love with this weather guys suit!

We tried to go for a walk...the walking was hard work!

Under the metro tracks to King street.

Me!
My pathetic snowman in front of our house and below, a Snowzilla pie to take to the neighbors for supper tonight. We had a great time!
On January 24, Sunday, the sun was shining and we had about 2 feet of snow. Church was cancelled, well everything on the east coast was cancelled.
My sidewalk had stayed pretty cleared from late Saturday night. Today we attempt to conquer the alley.
Our car is back there!
Even Jim joined the neighbor hood posse.
We found our car, took a lunch break, then the alley!
After the alley we started taking care of some of the neighbors who cannot shovel for themselves.
We cleared out their van.
Cleared the sidewalk to the corner of Commonwealth. Finally we celebrated our work!
January 25, Monday night
The roads are still mostly unplowed. We walked toward Braddock metro stop to head to somewhere to eat. The metro is trying to get up and running, but not reliable yet.
Our road looks like this^ and this v , that guy walking in the street is Jim. The news reports keep asking people to not walk in the streets...hmmmm!

Our road coming home after dinner

January 27, Wednesday night, Jim bought me two shovels and took me to the fabric store. School was still cancelled on Thursday and we had a late start on Friday, January 29.
On Friday, I came home from work to our long awaited coffee delivery. When Jim came home we headed to the metro to go to the airport to head to Iowa for my parents 65th Wedding Anniversary party!
Peace!
