Gunston Hall, March 16th

Our plans to hike Rock Creek Park with Vivian were laid to rest by the Metro Shutdown. Instead Jim and I went out for breakfast at LePain Quotidien and ran some errands while Vivian took a bus to get to us. Once together we drove to Gunston Hall, once the center of a 5,500 acre tobacco and wheat plantation.
It is a bit further away than Mount Vernon, and it was the home of George Mason. George Mason was the author of the Virginia Declaration of Rights. Mason was among the first to call for such basic American Liberties as religious toleration and freedom of the press. Thomas Jefferson referred to Mason as "a man of the first order of wisdom."

Cool place to sit and read!

Buried under the red oak tree in the family cemetery...

Peace!
