August is almost over...

I have found it difficult to blog lately...for several reasons...1. Been busy 2. Some things are hard to talk about and 3. I've been reading a good book. I went to Iowa to help my parents and siblings. Mom is doing much better now, but we still have a ways to go. The 3 extra surgeries after the original hip replacement took their toll, and dad has had some medical challenges too. Hopefully we are on the mend. Prayers!
Saw many family members while visiting the folks...
Brother Alan, brotherinlaw Jim Boike, sisterinlaw Jill Jorgensen, nephew Joe and sister Karol.
My sister Karol and I went shopping for a shawl for mom, we ended up at a fabric store and bought this fabric for mom. Karol texted me that she likes it. We made it really long so that it would wrap around and cover her legs a little. It was worn to church on Sunday...so that made me feel good.
On August 23, I went to church with Jim and Karol at Fredsville Lutheran Church.
This church is less than a mile away from the house I lived in until 4th grade. We moved from Dike to Cedar Falls when I started 5th grade.
After church we went to visit mom at Aldaya, and she was looking good.
Her friend brought her some pretty roses!
It was good to see her eating in the dining hall.
On Monday and Tuesday I spent more time with Dad...he had tomatoes to can.
I made apple bars after I cleaned out his fridge and found 15 apples in a drawer.
Karol came and we made lunch and I picked strawberries and made freezer jam.

Later I also turned some grape juice from Altoona grapes of mine, before I moved, into grape jelly.
I procrastinated about this jelly, friends teased me that I was waiting for wine...they must know me! I also made new napkins for Jim and I. 30 years ago my mom had made me some and they are really showing stress. I'm excited to use Karol's serger to make new ones.

Wednesday, the 26th, was a big day for my parents. My mom and dad were the first to donate a large sum of money(bye bye inheritance) to the new building project of the Western Home.
Karol and I were ready to help get mom looking gorgeous for the big groundbreaking, and not be to worn out by all of the hoopla. She was so excited to get outside for the event and be with Dad. We had gotten special permission from the dr. to take her out for this.
Dad was so glad to see her arrive in the van, and she was so excited to be there. Kind of heart warming for me to see their love so strong after 65 years together.
Alan, me, Dad and Karol (Kurt and Anne were not able to get away from other responsibilities)
Mom and Dad

Aren't we looking good!
A crowd is gathering for the groundbreaking. There are news reporters and cameras present...yikes!

It was a good day! Later that night Karol and I watched ourselves on the news, 2 different channels!
Mom has a friend at Aldaya, she is really sweet, and I fell in love with her.
I am sure this shocks you!
Mom told me black labs are her favorite, me too!
On Thursday Karol and I helped Dad can pears. We had a few pears left after canning 21 jars, so we made a pear crisp and used them all up!

On Friday mom went to two dr. Appt.'s and I had to say goodbye and go back to DSM to get my GOLD crown. Yes, I am Queen Mary now, and please do not forget to tithe the Queen. What? They don't do that in America? Dang!
After the crown I spent a wonderful evening with great friends and then I left early Saturday morning to come back to Virginia.  Big hug and thanks to Jacque, greatest friend ever, took me to the airport.
Rainy day! Sad day!

Peace!
