Jim and I went to Richmond for a "capital" weekend. Our main goal was to go to Art in the Park and get RJ's repaired belt buckle. We found some new places to explore and check out.
The Tredegar Iron Works was already well known when the Civil War began in 1861. During the war it was operated day and night to meet the demands of the confederacy for artillery, ammunition and other war related materials.
The restored iron works building offered a glimpse into the past, a couple movies about the history...
Jim read everything...of Course! I just wasn't very interested in this one. I listened to the stories...and was shocked to hear all of the losses of life from the war battles and disease...but I have to be honest, I wasn't very interested.
We were in a beautiful area...right by the James River! A friend from school had told me to be sure to go to Hollywood Cemetery. Two presidents, Monroe and Tyler, buried at Hollywood and the confederate states president, Jefferson Davis, so guess what? Yep! We had to see this!
Now we need to drive to the motel.
Cool bridge! We parked the car and walked to lunch at Penny Lane Pub for fish and chips. Then we walked to our Capitol building and passed this:
Robert E Lee grew up in Alexandria...we hear a lot about him around here...and saw a statue of him at the capital. Here is his Richmond home.
George, 1st President
The Marquis de La Fayette
Georges plowshare
Old Hall of the House of Delegates
We had a fine meal at C B B
Went and saw "My Big Fat Greek Wedding II" after the Wurlitzer played. It was awesome to be in this theater!
