November flew by...Minda, Tammy, Petersen's, Thanksgiving in Iowa and more substituting...

We have been busy with work, visitors and life in general. We like it that way, but my phone has too many pictures stored on it so I need to blog them into the memories they are!
MAlinda came for a visit for a medical conference. I watched her try on wedding dresses...so much fun! I took many pictures, but will not share those. We went out to eat and toured Alexandria.

We also met up with her and took her to the portrait gallery.

A piano worthy of Malinda's talent...
Walked by he Pershing statue on the way to her motel on October 24.
On October 29, we found our BBQ place and met Jamal. He is a sweetie and makes great BBQ!
On October 30 we went and saw Dewey's band play at a nearby restaurant...lots of fun for us old farts.
On October 31 we went a fishing boat ride with friends from Jim's job...

On October 7 we took a civil war tour that shared connections to the Mercy Street show coming out on PBS.

It was a rainy day, but a very informative tour and we enjoyed it very much, at least until we got cold.
We came home to eat lunch and then go to a funeral at church. Barbara will be missed.
Jim is saving ferns these days. Here are two he rescued from a garbage pile and hopes to take to work when the are totally rejuvenated.
My confirmation classmate and friend Tammy came for a visit and got an evening stroll on the mall after we had dinner near the Carlyle House in Alexandria. It is the night before Veterans Day.

Freedom isn't free...
We had a great time walking and talking together.
Thanksgiving dinner for Guest House at our church on November 18th. Jessica did a great job singing.

The choir sang as well...NICE! (November 18)
I have started making quilt tops for church sewing group.
I'm keeping this one for myself.

So far I have made four. I have many more squares to put together.

On November 21, we got together with the Petersen's. We seem to have started a tradition for making Aebelskiver together. Yum! Cara made a very delicious "Danish" meal of pork roast and new potatoes, green beans and hering horsedeovres to die for. While we mixed up the Aebelskiver the kids played.

This year we even got Chris to make some...the Danish traditions are being shared and kept.
On the 24th, I drove the Petersen's to Mount Vernon...a gorgeous day for a stroll.

On November 25, Jim and I flew to Iowa for Turkey Day.

Flying over the Pentagon...
Saw snow in Chicago, but most of it had melted in DSM.
Jim and Vivian at Grandpas farm in West Bend.
Vivian inherited Great Grandma Anna's sewing machine. A great day with family. Next we drove to Dike/ Cedar Falls to see my sister and husband and later my folks and I forgot to take any pictures. Silly me! Did get one taken of the four of us before we parted in different directions. I love being all together...I hate the part when it is time to leave. This may be our environmentally conscious Christmas card...
Merry Christmas from the Bernau's...Peace!

  1. Mary, I had to look twice!! Vivian looks so much like you, I thought you had dyed your hair. Mele Kalikimaka from our family to yours. We are visiting our oldest daughter, Sara, on the island of Hawai'i.
