After checking into the Lodge we went exploring in Colonial Willimsburg. It was very warm, shady spots were a godsend! We saw a movie with Jack Lord from 1959...Jim says he saw the movie in grade school, back in Charles City, Iowa! It showed historical Williamsburg and showed us typical life back then.
Below...boar sign!
Colonial homes line the streets
Our first big stop was the capital.
Reconstructed in the 1930's with Rockefeller $.
We learned about the two houses of the Captital, how long everything took, colonial copiers upstairs (where Thomas Jefferson got started) and we kept thinking government hasn't changed much...
Caught someone taking a moment, so peaceful...
I am fascinated by the window panes.
Here is the first Oval Office...
I am also fascinated by the round Windows everywhere.
Great tour guide, great tour!
Beautiful gardens grab my eyes and tug at my heart...
I wanted to help with the oxen.
Here comes the fife and drum parade.
The drums were loud...
...and the flags were glorious!
I'm still loving the oxen though. We walked over to merchants square to have lunch at the Trellis Bar and Grill. Next we are off to the Governor's Palace.
...and we sneak into the gorgeous gardens...
They were stunning!
I would love to work here if I was younger and didn't love a.c. so much.
My wonderful husband with me in a beautiful garden...
...and then the vegetables...asparagus!
Now we get to go in the Governors Palace...we are invited to a Ball!
Lots of things when you first walk in...swords and guns galore...
Here we are ready for the Ball
Minuet time...
Catalpa trees line the Palace green space.
But that is enough for today we have a wedding to get to...
...and we danced (and drank) late into the evening...Waking up in the morning was hard to do, but we knew where to go for breakfast!
We wanted to go to the National Park of Historical Jamestown.
This was not the one we wanted...back on the road for another mile...
Excellent Park Ranger tour!
The church where Pocahontas and James Rolfe were married.
POcahontas is a nick name.
Church tower built in 1639.
I'm so glad we had time to see this National Park!
It was a bit warm, but fun to go back in history!
One last look before we get ready to head for home...
13 miles to Charles City? Let 's go!
